Throughout the year Mrs Clay will capture you doing amazing work and will share it on our wikipage to showcase our amazing learning. 13.3.2015 At assembly today we had lots of cause of celebration. Our Peer Mediators were there to promote their roles in the playground, the school councillors received their badges, certificates went to Jordan and Kelvin and Jordan received a principals' award too! Not to mention we won Eeyore for being the most respectful class. Well done Room 6e!!
12.3.2015 Today we revised the different types of clouds we see in our sky. Mrs Clay put a 'blob' of shaving foam on our desks and we used this to demonstrate our knowledge of cloud types. We had a lot of fun! And our classroom is smelling fresh : )
9.3.2015 We have been talking about weather in class, and how it affects us when we are sailing and kayaking at Howick Beach. Today we focused on wind and learned that there are two factors that lead to the development of wind: The sun and the rotation of the earth. Mrs Clay then gave us some equipment and we had to design 'something' that would show us where the wind is coming from and where it is going to. We had lots of discussions in our groups and we all came up with some pretty different designs!
9.3.2015 Today we were treated to a Chinese Musical Performance in the hall. We heard lots of beautiful songs being played with a selection of chinese instruments - most of which none of us had heard of before. Some of us were even treated to some wonderful gifts - quite a surprise to us all!
26.2.2015 Today we looked at our I wonder board and decided we needed to work on this! One question someone had written was asking why diet coke and mentos reacted in the way that it does. Mrs Clay brought in some supplies and we did this experiment outside. It was great! And we learned about why it does react: a process called nucleation. We then discussed what we could do differently to make a better reaction - would the temperature of the coke affect the reaction? Or the size of the bottle? Or the type of liquid, or the type of mentos? We then talked about the application of this experiment and we discussed how it could be used to power things, cars etc. We had a good time learning today!
And here is a video from MythBusters to summarise what we found
out today:
18.2.2015 Today we had Tom from MSports take us for an awesome football coaching session. We played Skytower, Shark Attack, Bullrush and Cowboys and Indians and at the same time we learned many skills which we can use in our football PE sessions. It was awesome and everyone had such a great time laughing and joining in. Tom will be back in for the next five Wednesdays taking lunchtime football sessions. If you are keen, visit www.footballkidznz.co.nz to register. The cost of this is $50 for the five sessions.
9.2.2015 Today we had our first session at Howick Beach as we learned a lot of things about being safe on the water. We had a good time learning how to rig an optimist, as well as learning how to sail it! We have a bit of work to do on learning to tie and name the knots, but we had a great day! Mr Nicholls commended us for our excellent listening skills!
Welcome to our Chinese visitors who are with us until Wednesday afternoon. We welcome you into our room and hope you have fun while learning about how we learn in New Zealand! Here are some photos of our Welcoming assembly this morning.
Our first amazing photo showcase is to do with JUMP JAM!
